ENGINEER INTERN

REPORTS TO: Director of Facility Operations
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Responsible for analyzing current energy usage and developing the district’s energy management plan in order to provide proper environmental conditions with cost effective energy utilization. The Energy Intern will work with the district’s HVAC control and energy tracking computer system in order to achieve this purpose.
RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
• Ensure that energy management operations are supportive of the goals of the Facility Operations Department and Toyota Center.
• Employ effective communication skills.
• Recommend policies directed toward energy conservation.
• Develop long range plans for implementing innovations.
• Assist departmental supervisors and operators in evaluating HVAC and energy equipment to ensure effectiveness.
• Develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure the best operation in the area of HVAC and energy equipment maintenance.
• Pursue an aggressive program to reduce facilities costs for energy.
• Compile, maintain and file all energy reports and other documents required.
• Review current facility designs and equipment as related to energy management. Make recommendations that provide continued opportunities for reductions.
• Provide regular reports as to the overall effectiveness of the energy management program.
• Develop needed professional skills appropriate to job assignments.
• Analyze and recommend changes to current operational procedures that would induce reductions of utility consumption during events without deteriorating the comfort of the public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Currently studying mechanical engineering, engineering technology, business or related field with emphasis on facilities management.
• Knowledge of energy management program development.
• Knowledge of HVAC and lighting systems.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to provide reporting methods that detail information in a clear and concise manner.
• Knowledge/Experience in facility energy management, mechanical systems design, construction, and/or maintenance, or closely related field preferred.
This internship will be paid at $6.55/hr or can be applied for Course Credit only.
