Winners of the contest will receive an internship with the Houston Rockets as early as summer 2008!

PROBLEM:
Develop a model that best predicts an NBA player’s three point percentage for all players who shot 100 or more 3s in any season from 2000-01 to 2007-08. Briefly discuss your data set, approach, and results. Using the model you developed, predict the NBA’s highest three point percentage shooters (in order) for the 2008-09 regular season. Predictive accuracy will be judged using our own internal methods. Accordingly, contestants should build a model that will most accurately predict future data, not just one that best fits past data.

RULES:
Attach all relevant data sets utilized in your model (any file format you like). Detail the results of your model, including the working prediction file with dependent and independent variables used, and your 2008-09 predictions. Feel free to add a brief summary of your results in a Microsoft Word document.

QUESTIONS:
Individual questions (if any) should be addressed to xprizequestions@rocketball.com. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee a response due to the number of questions. Contestants should be prepared to move forward with their analysis using their best judgment.

DEADLINE:
E-mail your submission for the X-Prize Internship Contest to xprize@rocketball.com by midnight June 1, 2008. Finalists will be contacted in mid June.
